  • Our digital footprints can never be privateDr. Mohamed Elmasry
    April 11, 2018

If I told you 100 years ago that everyone, everywhere, would have a digital footprint, where all that we did, said, or wrote, every place we went, everyone we knew - in short, our life histories from birth to death, and beyond - could be recorded permanently using a handful of sand, you'd have dismissed me as crazy.

  • Egypt, 2003 to 2018 ... and beyond Dr. Mohamed Elmasry
    April 4, 2018

I became seriously involved in Egyptian politics in 2003 when I was invited to address an international conference in Cairo about the imminent American invasion of Iraq.

  • The Prophet and ISIS Dr. Mohamed Elmasry
    March 25, 2018

British journalist Yvonne Ridley is currently writing a book about Prophet Muhammad. Recently she asked if I would write about how I felt the Prophet might respond to ISIS - an issue she plans to address in her forthcoming book. I was glad to do so and am delighted that Ms. Yvonne likes my piece; I hope you do too.

So, you think care work is easy. That was the title of a talk given by philosophy professor Monique Lanoix to SWAG (Social Workers in Aging and Gerontology) in Ottawa on March 22.

  • Fixing the gender wage gap: progress by the numbersHal Durden
    March 20, 2018

One of my new favourite words injected into our lexicon is "mansplaining". I'm reluctant to explain what the word means, because I don't want to get accused of being a mansplainer, but I don't see any way around it in this case. Mansplaining is when a man explains a concept to a woman in a condescending way, assuming they don't have the capacity to understand that concept without a man's help.

  • It's Time to Stop the Pharmaceutical Industry from putting Profit ahead of Health Dr. Mohamed Elmasry
    March 20, 2018

For the past century the global pharmaceutical industry has increasingly placed money ahead of human well-being. It began by researching natural remedies discovered by our ancient ancestors, then synthesizing the active ingredients in their labs, patenting the process... and now, making billions.

  • Peterson's 12 Rules for Life: A discussion not a lectureHal Durden
    March 12, 2018

Professor Jordan B. Peterson of the University of Toronto first came to my attention due to his opposition to Bill C-16; an amendment to the Canadian Human Rights Act and the Criminal Code that added gender expression and identity to the list of "prohibited grounds of discrimination."

  • Canada's Indigenous Communities: The Truth is EnoughHal Durden
    March 8, 2018

On February 9, 2018 Gerald Stanley was found not guilty of second-degree degree murder in the shooting death of Colten Boushie of Red Pheasant First Nations. Almost two weeks later, Raymond Cormier was found not guilty of second-degree murder in the death of Tina Fontaine. Both cases have drawn considerable attention in Canadian media due to the racial tension they have created between the Indigenous communities that Boushie and Fontaine were from, and the "Systems" and people in Canada that they feel have failed them.

  • The Threat, North Korean and The OtherReuel S. Amdur
    March 4, 2018

North Korea's Kim Jong Un shows no sign of curtailing his nuclear ambitions. His nasty rhetoric displays an attitude that makes him a threat to the whole world. Atomic weapons constitute such a threat. However, we should not overlook where else the threat comes from. Just for starters, there is Donald Trump's equally belligerent rhetoric, noting that his nuclear button is "much bigger" than Kim's.

  • Anti-semitism and the silencing of debate (1 of 2)Edward C. Corrigan

While militarily strong and facing no existential threats Zionism and Israel's policies toward the Palestinians has been taking a beating in world opinion.2
