  • Harper offers false choice for Middle East peaceMorgan Duchesney
    February 18, 2014

Inspired perhaps by the fading echoes of George W. Bush; Stephen Harper has presented Canadians with a false choice on Middle East peace: either voice "absolute, non-negotiable belief in Israel" or be declared an anti-Semite. Stephen Harper refuses to be a real friend to the Israelis in the sense that he excuses their more objectionable behaviour for the sake of political support, business deals and misplaced guilt.

    January 9, 2012

The Canadian public does not share Stephen Harper's certainty about Afghanistan and the role of the military in general. A June, 2011 Ipsos Reid study, commissioned by the Department of National Defense, indicated that, "…Canadians were under-informed about the Canadian Forces role in Afghanistan, and that they did not know why the Canadian Forces were still there."

  • Israel's Illegal Migrant Hypocrisy Morgan Duchesney
    July 19, 2012

Is the Netanyahu regime capable of responding humanely when an opportunity for accurate self-perception arrives? Recent events may provide the answer to this question that the corporate media would never dare ask. Israel, ostensibly a state built on the notion of asylum (at least for European Jews); is expressing outrage at the influx of illegal migrants into its sacred precincts. How ironic but yet, how fitting; considering Israel's established policy of expanding illegal settlements on the West Bank and in East Jerusalem.

  • Harper on Israel: Is the Prime Minister mentally sound?Murray Dobbin
    November 17, 2010

Watching and listening to Stephen Harper's bizarre and unnerving speech about anti-Semitism and Israel raises the question as to whether or not the man is mentally fit to be prime minister.

This is one of those elections where you can imagine your children or grandchildren (if you have any) will ask you years later what you were doing when the country was lost. Did you try to stop this man, grandpa? Did you campaign against the Conservative, grandma?

The news of an alleged assassination attempt on the Saudi ambassador to the United States, Adel Al-Jubeir, in October read like a first-class movie script, but the manner in which government political elites dealt with the incident signaled that Washington and other European capitals did not see the matter as a joke.

    January 5, 2011

One year after I adopted my new year's resolution at the beginning of 2010, I have not eaten one bite of meat or poultry. I am not a vegan; I still eat fish, cheese, eggs and milk products. My health is much better and I feel good about saving the animals from suffering and the planet from the pollution of industrial animal-farming.

  • The Trans-Pacific Agreement will sap whatever is left of our SovereigntyNadia Alexan
    October 7, 2015

If you really think we live in a free and independent society, think again. What sovereignty are we left with, when we have already forfeited our birthright to multinationals? What freedom are we talking about when a private company can challenge our laws in court, according to the various so-called free-trade agreements, negotiated by our governments in secret: NAFTA, the Comprehensive Economic Trade Agreement between Canada and the European Union (CETA) and now the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP)? Trade is the new euphemism for a Bill of Rights for Corporations.
